UPDATE – As of the January 2021, all stages in the Montana Gravel Challenge will be team time trials with teams of two people. There will be a minimum of 2 minute intervals between teams and there is not drafting or group riding between teams. I would like to host the event, but also do not believe group riding should be encouraged by April. If restrictions and the rolling 7 day average goes below 25, I will consider loosening restrictions.
Most of the race information can be found on the official Gravel Challenge Website. Three early season stages, all based in the 6 and 9 mile valleys just outside of Missoula near Huson, MT. Bjorn and Big Sky Brewery will be our hosts and base camp for the early season challenge.
Friday April 16th – 9 Mile Time Trial – A Friday eve delight. Out and back gravel only, slight rise on the way out and slight decline on the way home, around 20 miles total.
Saturday April 17th – Southside Road. Back again this course will be nice on a rainy Sunday. Ride Mullan Road pavement out to Southside Road and ride the iconic gravel two track back to the start. Plan on 3-5 hours of racing.
Sunday April 18th – Old Roubaix Circuit. This lapped style course starts and finishes at race hq. Plan on 2-3 hours of racing.
The group stages will have one aid station per route where you can refill on water and some snacks. All aid stations are run by MTB Missoula and The Cycling House. You know what the means….pickles, parties, and beef jerky.
