Dear Missoula Cyclocross Community,
With multiple cyclocross events and race season just around the corner, I think it is important to discuss the current COVID situation and what racers may come to expect at upcoming events. With no easier way of saying it, MTCX the business is pro-vaccine. We believe that the fastest way to ease the pressure on our healthcare system, keep kids in schools without interruption, and to have “normal” bike racing, is that every person gets the COVID vaccination.
To be clear, as the governing body of racing in Missoula we will not require vaccines to race, spectate, or volunteer at any event this Fall. We do ask all riders and volunteers if they’ve been vaccinated on our registration forms. I keep this data private but use it to help plan and execute events.
MTCX Covid Protocols as of 9/14/21 (subject to change):
– Please do not attend if you are experiencing any COVID 19 symptoms (full race refund granted).
– Masks recommended for registration area, starting grid, and post race hanging out. MTCX registration staff will wear masks at the base area.
– Starting grid will be spaced out during staging and then rolled together at the last minute.
– Please socially distance during “hang out” times.

One of the things I love most about the Missoula community is how our riders treat each other and the thanks and respect they show towards race promoters, officials, race staff, and volunteers. I was at most of the races this season. People were just stoked to be racing again. I believe we will have some of the same COVID risk mitigation requirements during the upcoming cyclocross season and I know these races will still be amazing. I also know that when our community gathers to participate in these events, we will show consideration and regard for our fellow competitors, race staff, officials, and volunteers. All of these recommendations and protocols are subject to change as things move forward. I will keep everyone updated. Pre-race emails will be sent out every Monday for the Wednesday race.
The Skills and Thrills clinic and practice race is this Saturday. Registration is still open for both, or just the clinic or just the race. Click here to register.
